The war in Ukraine and a historic geopolitical realignment are generating complex problems and new challenges. The Uppsala University Ukraine Research Hub (3UHub) is catalyst for research related to these challenges. The Hub promotes interdisciplinary social science research primarily in the following fields:
- sustainable peace
- post-war governance
- Ukraine’s European integration
- geopolitics & securitization of economic relations

- Perspectives on Peace: Isak Svensson & Desirée Nilsson (Professors, Department of Peace & Conflict Research)
This project analyzes peace attempts and investigates support for concessions by Ukrainians as well as attitudes towards different elements of the negotiation process. - EU Membership for Ukraine & Moldova: Anna Michalski (Professor, Department of Government)
This project examines the geopolitical and strategic implications of enlargement; EU’s conditionality & necessary internal reforms of the EU in order to prepare the Union for future accessions. - Peacebuilding in Ukraine: Anna Jarstad (Professor, Department of Government)
This project explores challenges related to contested territories and post-war reconciliation in Ukraine. - Fields on Fire: Susanne Wengle (Professor, Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies)
The ongoing war has far-reaching consequences for Ukrainian farms, European agriculture, global food trade and food security. This project examines the role of agriculture and land in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
