About the Faculty of Theology
The Faculty of Theology is Uppsala University's oldest and consists of a department that has conducted theological research and teaching since Uppsala University was founded in 1477.

The department conducts research in areas such as classical theological and ecclesiastical issues, biblical interpretation and fiction, the encounter between science and religion, rites and psychological health, theological and philosophical aspects of animal ethics, and religion and welfare.
There are seven postgraduate subjects with a total of twelve specializations.
First Cycle Studies
At the first cycle level, courses and programmes provide knowledge of religions locally and globally, historically and in the present, of the content of worldviews and religions, their significance for ethical and philosophical problems of religion, of the origins, background and cultural influence of religious texts, especially the Bible, and of the various self-understandings and interactions of Christian churches with society.
Second Cycle Studies
At the second cycle level, in addition to the Master's programme in Theology and Religious Studies, there are programmes specialising in Human Rights, Religion and Conflict, International Humanitarian Action and European Culture - the latter three are taught in English and the latter two are international cooperation programmes.
