A new Vice-Chancellor portrait for Uppsala University

The university's art collection contains a large number of portraits. The collection manifests a continuity through history with potraits from older eras and more contemporary. In December 2020, at the employment award ceremony for the university's previous Vice-Chancellor, Eva Åkesson, a portrait, made by Olle Hamngren (b. 1960), was unveiled. Join us on a visit to the artist's studio and listen to a conversation about the creation of Eva Åkesson's portrait.

Digital celebration of Queen Kristina's birthday

In collaboration with the Christina Academy, The Royal Armoury and several other cultural institutions around Sweden, a digital celebration of Queen Christina's birthday was organized on December 8. Hear museum director Mikael Ahlund and 1st antiquarian Ragnar Hedlund talk about connections to Queen Kristina in Uppsala University's art collections and coin cabinet.

From valuable gifts to the university and the court's move during the plague, to straight streets and abdication in the Rikssalen at Uppsala Castle. Queen Kristina's history is also Uppsala's history. Uppsala's ciceron John Ringh tells more!
