The exhibition showcases the evolution of writing through the centuries, the origin of book printing and the dissemination of scientific discoveries in printed form. Through historical documents you gain an understanding of the development of society and democracy in past centuries.

Orbis arctoi – Bure’s monumental 1626 map
On display until further notice
Orbis arctoi nova et accurata delineatio is a map of the Nordic region and a milestone in Swedish cartography. It was produced by the Swedish cartographer Andreas Bureus, who was later ennobled as Anders Bure.

The Uppsala University Main Building
The University House is an important part of Uppsala University's history and cultural heritage. This exhibition depicts the building's origins and its prominent role in Swedish architectural history. Through original drawings and sketches, visitors gain an insight into the building's architecture, interior design and artistic decoration.
The exhibition is curated by Anna Hamberg at the Department of Art History.

Student choirs in Uppsala through history
On display until December 2026
Student life and choir singing – two hallmarks of Uppsala for over 200 years. In this exhibition, visitors gain an insight into the music, culture and history that have shaped the city’s vibrant student choir life today.
A mix of letters, manuscripts, programmes and other items provides a historical overview, covering both private documents and major organisational changes.

Codex argenteus
Codex argenteus – Latin for "Silver Book" – is Sweden's most valuable book and one of the world's most famous manuscripts.

Carta Marina
Carta Marina was printed in Venice 1539. It was the first map that represented the Nordic countries in a more-or-less correct way.
