Special Collections Reading Room

The Special Collections Reading Room is used for studying Special Collections and fragile items.

Plan your visit

You do not need to make an appointment to visit the Special Collections Reading Room, but you do need to request in advance the material you wish to study. See Request items from the Special Collections.
To visit the Special Collections Reading Room, you must have a library account at Uppsala University Library.
You may be required to show a valid library card and proof of identity on each visit.
There are storage lockers in the café area on the entrance floor of Carolina Rediviva. See where the lockers are located.
The Special Collections Reading Room does not always have the same opening hours as the rest of Carolina Rediviva. See hours below.

The Special Collections Reading Room is a silent reading room.
No bags, tote bags, umbrellas, coats or other outer garments may be brought in.
Drinks, food or other snacks, including snus and chewing gum, are not allowed.
Only pencils are allowed in the Special Collections Reading Room. Pencils can be borrowed on site.
You may take photos without flash and shutter sound. A tripod for photography is available in the room.
Laptops, mobile phones and cameras can be brought by visitors. No other technical equipment, such as scanners, UV lamps, light boxes or tripods, is permitted.
If your checked-out material has not been used for 30 days, it will be recalled.
