Special Collections Reading Room

The Special Collections Reading Room is used for studying Special Collections and fragile items.

The Special Collection Reading Room during renovation

Due to renovation, the Special Collections Reading Room has temporarily moved to a room on the 3rd floor (the floor below the entrance level).

Special Collections Reading Room closed 23/6 – 25/7

During the period June 23 – July 25 the Special Collections Reading Room will be closed.

Opening hours may change at short notice

We may need to close the Special Collections Reading Room temporarily at short notice due to the renovation. Therefore, please stay informed about the Special Collections Reading Room’s opening hours.

Disruptive sounds

During the renovation period, there will be noise and other sounds that may be perceived as disruptive.

Temporary room at the 3rd floor

Note that the temporary room:

has access to a lift via the reading room B.
has a limited number of seats. For the best chance of getting a seat, please arrive when the reading room opens.
is not open during evening hours.

Find the Special Collections Reading Room

Plan your visit

You do not need to make an appointment to visit the Special Collections Reading Room, but you do need to request in advance the material you wish to study.
To visit the Special Collections Reading Room, you must have a library account at Uppsala University Library.
On your first visit, you are required to show proof of identity.
The Special Collections Reading Room does not always have the same opening hours as the rest of Carolina Rediviva.

Code of conduct for the Special Collections Reading Room

The Special Collections Reading Room is a silent reading room.
No bags, tote bags, coats or other outer garments may be brought in. There are storage lockers in the café area on the entrance floor of Carolina Rediviva. See where the lockers are located.
Drinks, food or other snacks are not allowed.
Only pencils are allowed in the Special Collections Reading Room. Pencils can be borrowed on site.
You may take photos (without flash and shutter sound). Tripods, scanners or hand-held scanners are not allowed.
If your checked-out material has not been used for 30 days, it will be recalled.
