Read and download e-books and other e-resources
The Library's e-resources (e-books, e-journals and databases) can be accessed remotely by Uppsala University students, researchers and employees. Other users can access them via the Library's computers.
Accounts and login
You do not need a library account to access e-resources, but you may need to log in in other ways:
Students, researchers and others active at Uppsala University
Access on campus
When you are on campus, you are automatically logged in to most of our e-resources. The exception is those e-resources that require special login details (see Journals and databases with separate login credentials).
Access off campus
If you want to use our e-resources remotely, these options are available:
Log in via the Library's website
- Go to Uppsala University Library's website and click on the link to the e-journal, database or e-book that you are interested in.
- If you are not on campus you will be prompted to log in. In most cases, joint web login is used. This means that you log in with your university ID and password A. However, some journals and databases use separate login credentials: Journals and databases with separate login credentials.
VPN service
You can also access our resources outside the university network by connecting your computer with a VPN service. This service is only available to university staff. When you are connected, no further login is required. See the guide Connect to the network remotely.
Employees at Region Uppsala
To access the e-resources that Region Uppsala subscribes to, go to Sök information – E-biblioteket.

Outside your workplace you need to log in. Use the same credentials as those needed for your computer and e-mail.

Other users – walk-in access only
Use the library computers
- You are welcome to use our e-resources on site at the library using our public computers.
- It is not possible to access the e-resources from home or on your private computer even when using our guest WiFi.
Temporary guest account for the computers
To use our computers you need a temporary guest account. This can be issued by the staff at one of our staffed libraries during the hours the information desk is open. Bring a photo ID.
Read or download e-resources
All books can be read in your browser as long as you have an internet connection. However, if you want to download a book, you need specific apps or reading software. In many cases you will also need an Adobe account.
