Clara Gustafsson

Clara Gustafsson is a PhD student in natural language processing (NLP) at the Department of Linguistics and Philology at Uppsala University. She has a Bachelor of Arts in General Linguistics, and a Master of Arts in Computational Linguistics, both from Uppsala University. Her academic background also involves forensic linguistics and theoretical philosophy.

Her research focuses on language and deception, exploring the possibilities of applying NLP techniques for automatic linguistic analysis of verbal statements. This involves experimenting with large language models (LLMs), methods to enhance the explainability of such models, and more traditional stylometric analysis. Two main research questions are whether linguistic differences exist between lies and truths, denials and confessions and whether these differences can be used to predict that someone is lying.
