IceCube Neutrino Observatory
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory, the world’s leading neutrino telescope, consists of light-sensitive detectors located inside an area a cubic kilometre in size deep beneath the South Pole ice cap. Four countries, including Sweden, initiated the telescope project, and today 12 countries participate. An upgrade of IceCube is planned o increase directional resolution to detect high-energy neutrinos and to measure signals from ultra-high-energy neutrinos.
The Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI) funds this research infrastructure, which the Swedish Research Council considers to be in the national interest.
