Decommission ongoing

We are working with mapping, measuring, declassification of different types of waste:

  • "green" waste = equipment far from radiation lines = declassifiable -> conventional waste
  • "yellow" waste = equipment closer to beam lines = unclassifiable -> conventional waste

As waste is declassified, it is handed over to a procured waste recipient.

Ongoing subproject is to emptying house 17. Here are the big experimental halls as the Blue hall, the Gamma Cave and Therapy as well as the smaller support localties.

Waste possible to declassify is handed out as scrap. Other waste is moved to suitable storage localities for further treatment and storage in wait for declassification.

The empty halls in house 17 are then mapped, sampled and sanitized before free classification.

In June 2026 will house 17 be returned to the Uppsala University for other use.
