Decommission ongoing

We are working with mapping, measuring, declassification of different types of waste:

• "green" waste = equipment far from radiation lines = declassifiable -> conventional waste.
• "yellow" waste = equipment closer to beam lines = declassifiable -> conventional waste.
• "red" waste = equipment in direct beam, irradiated. Some declassifiable -> conventional waste. Other needed storage for declining before declassificatin -> conventional waste.

As waste is declassified, it is handed over to a procured waste recipient.

Ongoing subproject in PHASE 3 is to emptying house 5.

In the basement of this building is the particle accelerator hall containing the cyclotron, several smaller support localties and offices at ground level. All equipment in these localities is going away.

Waste possible to declassify is handed out as scrap. Other waste is moved to suitable storage localities for further treatment and storage in wait for declassification.

The empty cyclotron hall is then mapped, sampled and sanitized before free classification.

In June 2027 will house 5 be returned to the Uppsala University for other use.
