The Royal Academic Orchestra devotes the afternoon's concert entirely to music by Antonín Dvořák and performs Symphony No. 7 in D minor, Romance in F minor for violin and orchestra and a furiant from The Slavonic Dances.

The orchestra is led during this concert by guest conductor Ciarán Crilly from the University College Dublin (UCD) Symphony Orchestra.

Ciarán Crilly

Ciarán Crilly is a musician and academic with over twenty years’ experience as an orchestral conductor. He is Associate Professor of Orchestral Conducting in the UCD School of Music, where he was Head of School from 2018 to 2023. He is a guest lecturer in orchestral conducting for the BMus Performance Degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the MA in Film Scoring at Pulse College, based at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin. Ciarán is Artistic Director of the UCD Symphony Orchestra with whom has directed over seventy performances in major venues in Ireland, as well as on tour in Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, and the UK. He has conducted orchestras in Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the US. In Ireland, he has held positions with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra (Principal Guest Conductor 2003–06), Dublin Baroque Players (Guest Conductor 2007–08), Dublin Orchestral Players (Principal Conductor 2007–15), and DYO Symphony Orchestra (Guest Conductor 2022–23), and has also conducted groups including the Dublin County Choir, Irish Doctors Orchestra, Irish Film Orchestra, Hibernian Orchestra, Mornington Singers, Resurgam, RIAM Symphony Orchestra, and RTÉ Concert Orchestra. As a violin and viola player, he has performed with several orchestras (Irish Film Orchestra, Marlborough Baroque, Orlando Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra) and acclaimed popular music acts. He is co-editor of the multi-author volume Perspectives on Conducting, published by Routledge in 2024.
