Old-age pension

Old-age pension

Most government employees receive a letter from SPV (the National Government Employee Pensions Board) well in advance of their retirement. This letter provides information on how to apply when the time comes. You will need to contact SPV yourself to request the application forms. More information can be found in SPV’s routine description for pension matters.
If you wish to retire at a different time – for example, early retirement or deferred retirement – you must contact SPV directly.

  • Plan your retirement well in advance. You can make a forecast at minpension.se and consider how you would like to draw your pension.
  • Talk to your head of department (or equivalent) about your retirement plans and timing.
  • Apply for your national (public) pension on the Swedish Pensions Agency’s website.
  • Contact SPV and request the application documents for your occupational pension: Application for occupational pension – section on defined benefit old-age pension and Your employment details. If SPV has not heard from the employee, they will send the application forms seven months before the employee turns 69.
  • Complete the forms from SPV and submit them to your head of department (or equivalent) for signature.
  • At the same time, complete the form Uppsägning på egen begäran (7.0.1) and submit it to your head of department (or equivalent) for signature.
  • The resignation form should then be emailed to the Payroll Unit, which will process the end of employment.
  • You, as the employee, are responsible for sending your completed pension application documents directly to SPV.

Please make sure to inform your head of department (or equivalent) well in advance of your planned retirement. Applications to SPV and the Swedish Pensions Agency must be submitted three months before the first payment date to ensure that your pension payments start on time.
