International opportunities
As a doctoral student at Uppsala University, you can be categorised as both student and employee. Therefore, you can participate in the international opportunities via Erasmus+ for both students and staff.
Studies through Erasmus+
PhD students can go on Erasmus studies. This means that you take courses or a programme at a college or university in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries during 2-12 months. You can also take a course as a part of a short mobility, which means that it lasts for a minimum of five days and a maximum of 30 days.
An agreement with the receiving univeristy is needed
A bilateral agreement is needed between UU and the other university to facilitate the doctoral mobility. Contact the international coordinator at your department or erasmus@uu.se for more information about which agreements exists. If there is no existing agreement, you can contact erasmus@uu.se and we can try to find an alternative.
Apply well in advance
The application process takes between 6-12 months from the application to exchange studies, nominations and application for the Erasmus grant for studies.
Traineeships, field studies or data collections through Erasmus+
By participating in an Erasmus traineeship, you can collect data for your thesis or carry out fieldwork at a company, organisation or university in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries. The Erasmus Traineeship is full-time for 2-12 months. You can also do an activity as part of short mobility, which means that it is a minimum of five and a maximum of 30 days long.
You are responsible for finding a suitable place
Firstly, you must arrange a traineeship placement with a suitable host. The host can be a university, company or organisation in Europe. After this, you send the application for the Erasmus traineeship grant at least one month before the traineeship period begins. Please note that the application for the Erasmus traineeship grant is open only a few weeks per semester.
Staff exchange through Erasmus+ and ICM
Doctoral students at Uppsala University can receive grants for their department to do some kind of staff exchange in either one of the Erasmus+ programme countries or in selected countries outside Europe through International Credit Mobility (ICM). The employee exchange includes several different types of activities and the one you choose must be connected to your possible future profession or ongoing work at Uppsala University.
Explore the possibilities via UU's international networks
