Time plan

The internal prioritization process at Uppsala University consists of several steps.

• Humsam's heads of departments nominate candidates via this nomination form. Instructions are below. The deadline for the departments' nominations is May 22, 2026.
• Incoming nominations are handled and prioritized by the review panel for special calls. After that, a university-wide prioritization takes place.
• The Vice-Chancellor's decision on which candidates the University will nominate to the Swedish Research Council is made in June, after which notifications are sent to researchers and heads of departments.

Co-funding

• Under VR’s terms, co‑funding is required, and at Humsam, it is the responsibility of the nominating department to cover this. The Vice-Chancellor co-funds this initiative with SEK 450,000 per year for five years.

Nomination instructions for Heads of Departments

• At Humsam, a departmen or equivalent may nominate at most two candidates, of whom at least one must be international. This means that if only one candidate is nominated, that candidate must be international.
• The faculties at Humsam have different career age requirements for being eligible for employment. It is up to the head of department to ensure that the nominee meets the requirements. The age is calculated based on the date of the closing of the call.
• To be nominated as an international candidate, the candidate must have had their main employment and research activities outside Sweden during the last four years at least. Shorter fixed-term employments or research visits in Sweden during the four-year period, without an intention to establish in Sweden, may be permitted.
• The nominee may have been employed as an associate senior lecturer previously, but only for a maximum of 6 months, counting from the closing of the call.
• Nominated candidates must be very competitive.

The nomination is submitted through this nomination form. The application is written in English and must be attached to the nomination:

1. An application document written using the provides template. The document includes a research plan (max 2 pages), a description of merits (max 1 page) and mobility (max 1 page), as well as a CV (max 2 pages) and a publication list.
2. A letter of support signed by the Head of Department, written using the provided template.

• Incoming nominations are handled and prioritized by the management of the disciplinary domain in the beginning of June. After that, a university-wide prioritization takes place.
• The Vice-Chancellor's decision on which candidates the University will nominate to the Swedish Research Council is made in June, after which notifications are sent to researchers and heads of departments.
• The researchers that the University nominates to the Swedish Research Council work on the applications. Medfarm's Research Support will support the researchers in this step.

Co-funding

• The Vice-Chancellor co-funds this initiative with SEK 450,000 per year for five years. The Disciplinary domain of medicine and pharmacy co-funds another SEK 500,000 per year for five years.
• Observe that VR funds the BUL position for 5 years. At Medfarm, BUL positions are for 6 years.

Nomination instructions for Heads of Departments

• The nominee must have a career age of a maximum of 7 years after the date for doctoral degree (in accordance with Medfarm's guidelines for employment of BUL). The age is calculated based on the date of the closing of the call.
• Nominated candidates must be very competitive.
• To be nominated as an international candidate, the candidate must have had their main employment and research activities outside Sweden during the last four years at least. Shorter fixed-term employments or research visits in Sweden during the four-year period, without an intention to establish in Sweden, may be permitted.
  
• The nominee may have been employed as an associate senior lecturer previously, but only for a maximum of 6 months, counting from the closing of the call.

The nomination is submitted through this nomination form. The following documents in English must be attached to the nomination:

1. An application document written using the following application template docx, 26 kB.. The document includes a research plan (max 2 pages), a description of merits (max 1 page) and mobility (max 1 page), as well as a CV (max 2 pages) and a publication list.
2. A letter of support signed by the Head of Department, written using the following support letter template docx, 36 kB..
3. If you as a Head of Department nominate more than 1 candidate, you need to rank them. Send the ranking in an email to carin.marciszko@uu.se.

• Incoming nominations are prioritized by the Advisory Committee for Research followed by a university-wide prioritization.
• The Vice-Chancellor's decision on which candidates the University will nominate to the Swedish Research Council is made in June 26, after which notifications are sent to researchers and heads of departments.
• The researchers that the University nominates to the Swedish Research Council work on the applications. Teknat's Research Support will support the researchers in this step.

Co-funding

• The Vice-Chancellor co-funds this initiative with SEK 450,000 per year for five years. The Disciplinary domain co-funds another SEK 500,000 per year for five years for internal candidates and SEK 1 million per year for five years for international candidates.

• The nominee must have a career age of a maximum of 7 years after the dissertation (in accordance with Teknat's guidelines for employment of BUL).
• To be nominated as an international candidate, the candidate must have had their main employment and research activities outside Sweden during the last four years at least. Read more at VR site.
• The nominee may have been employed as an associate senior lecturer previously, but only for a maximum of 6 months, counting from the closing of the call.

3. Ranking and justification. In cases where a department nominates more than one candidate in each category (internal/international), these must also be ranked with justification. This ranking and justification should be sent to researchsupport-teknat@uu.se no later than June 4.
