Implementation of the European Charter
The implementation of the European Charter is a multi-year quality assurance process.
To support the implementation, a process called HR award process, is used.
Implementation of the European Charter through the HR award process consists of three phases:
Initial phase of application for the “HR Excellence in Research Award”
- Conduct a GAP analysis and identify which principles of the Charter and Code (2005) and of OTM-R (Open, Transparent Merit-based Recruitment) Uppsala University will continue to work on by means of an action plan.
- Application for and approval of the HR Excellence in Research quality label from the European Commission.
Implementation phase
- Implementation of activities in the initial action plan. This takes place over a two-year period after the granting of the HR Award and is accompanied by an internal follow-up evaluated by the European Commission.
- Implementation of activities in the revised action plan. This takes place over the next three years after the evaluation.
Renewal of the award
- The renewal process to retain the quality label includes a renewed application and a visit to Uppsala University by the European Commission. This occurs five years after the first HR Award was granted.
- Renewal, without an on-site visit, takes place after a further three years.
Uppsala University is in the third phase. A renewal application was submitted in October 2024 and a site visit was conducted on April 7. Uppsala University received a response through the EC consensus report- Renewal assessment, that Uppsala University continues to have the award - HR Excellence in Research.
