The Wallenberg Foundations
The Wallenberg Foundations is the collective name for 16 foundations established by the Wallenberg family. The Foundations support excellent researchers and research projects beneficial to Sweden. The three largest foundations are Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW), Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW) och Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW).
There is a wide variety of calls for proposals with different focus and size of grants. The foundations distribute more than SEK 2 billion annually to support excellent basic research and education in Sweden.
Internal prioritization necessary
Observe that the Wallenberg Foundations usually require that the University makes a nomination and thereby decides which researchers are allowed to apply. Individual researchers cannot nominate themselves. Rather, the final selection of candidates is based on an internal prioritization process at Uppsala University. Under the respective call below, you can read more about these selection processes at the University.
