The Medfarm research support

At the Office for medicine and pharmacy is the Unit for research support. Nine research advisors and project coordinators work here, all of whom have a doctoral degree and extensive experience both in own research and guiding others regarding research funding. We work to support researchers and management with research-related questions. Our main support for you researchers is to help with research funding.

In order to get the best possible help from us, it is important that you contact us well in advance, which for many calls means at least 1 month before the deadline. However, for more complex calls that involve several partners or aim to identify and recruit international researchers to the university, even longer more time is required. During busy application periods, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who can receive support?

Prerequisites for receiving support are that you are employed by Uppsala University and/or that the research funds you apply for will be managed by the University. You who are employed by Uppsala University Hospital and/or plan to place the funds at the hospital can instead contact Region Uppsala's Research Support. Doctoral students are outside our target group.

Our external funding support

We offer advice on research funding, e.g. how to find the right funders and calls for you and your research. We also offer extended application support for certain selected funders and calls. Below we present the more specific support that we provide for different types of funders.

The Medfarm research support has good knowledge of the EU's calls, regulations and practices. We help you find the right EU call for your research and guide you through the application process, especially if you are going to lead an application. We help you, for example, by interpreting call texts, providing templates and giving advice on e.g. budget based on our solid experience of EU applications.

We can also help you who are applying for a grant from ERC or MSCA by reading and giving feedback on your application. We also arrange interview training if your ERC application has progressed to the interview phase.

We also support you who have received an EU grant up to the start of the project, and answer questions that arise during the course of the EU project. Contact the Medfarm research support as early as possible to get the best possible support.

How to apply for EU funding at Uppsala University

Federal American funders have a very extensive set of regulations that impose requirements on the organization to which the applicant belongs. It is therefore mandatory for you as an applicant to contact Research Support well in advance - no later than 20 working days before the deadline - when you plan to apply for federal funding. This applies both when you are the main applicant and co-applicant.

We inform you about the University's regulations for this type of application, provide instructions and templates, create an account for you in the application system and provide general administrative support. You can also ask us for advice when designing your budget. Please note that it is Research Support that submits the application for you after you have entered all documents and information into the application system.

We also support you who have received a federal grant, for example with reports and questions that arise. If you as a researcher do not have previous experience with federal funding, Medfarm's research support organizes a start-up meeting for you and other interested parties. During the meeting, we go through the administrative rules and procedures that apply together. Everything to facilitate the start, implementation and completion of the project.

Always contact Research Support well in advance when you plan to apply for American federal funding.

How to apply for federal American funding at Uppsala University

How you manage your federal American grant at Uppsala University

For international funding, with the exception of EU and federal American funding, it is primarily your department that you turn to for support, both in the application phase and during the project period.

Applications that require central adminstration

The Medfarm research support can support you in international calls that require central administration, for example when the funder requires an internal prioritization at the University and/or requires the approval or co-funding of the management of the disciplinary domain or the University (e.g. Vice-Chancellor).

Complex applications

Medfarm's research support can also help you in larger and more complex applications to international funders, e.g. larger collaborative projects. If you have been granted such a project, we can also give you support if you have questions or concerns during the course of the project.

For Swedish research funding, it is primarily your department that you turn to for support, both in the application phase and during the project period.

Applications that require central administration

Medfarm's research support can support you in national calls that require central administration, for example when the funder requires an internal prioritization at the University and/or requires the approval or co-funding of the management of the disciplinary domain or the University (e.g. Vice-Chancellor).

We offer support in calls from the Swedish Research Council that require that it is the organization that submits the application (e.g. national research infrastructure and research schools). Also some calls from, among others, SSF, Vinnova, and Torsten Söderberg's Foundation require central administration by Research Support. When it comes to calls from the Wallenberg foundations, we offer extended support in the form of budget support, feedback on the application and interview training.

Complex applications

Medfarm's research support can also help you in larger and more complex applications to Swedish funders. This could, for example, be applications to Vinnova's Competence Center and Impact Innovation program, VR's Center of Excellence, or other major collaborative projects.

If you have been granted such a project, we can also give you support if you have questions or concerns during the course of the project.

Other support

For other applications to Swedish funders (e.g. regular project grants or personal career grants), we can help you if you have questions and - if time allows - give feedback on selected parts of your application.
