Discontinuation and leave of absence
Academic leave of absence
If you need to take a break from your studies, you must apply for a leave of absence in order to secure your place on the programme when you return. If you take a break without applying, your place on the programme cannot be guaranteed.
If you have questions about taking a leave of absence, please contact the Department’s study counsellor.
Apply for an academic leave of absence
To resume your studies after a leave of absence, apply for your courses in the usual way via universityadmissions.se. If your break has been so long that this is no longer possible, you need to apply formally for a return to studies.
Notification of discontinuation
If you wish to discontinue a course or programme, you must notify the Department. Discontinuing means that you give up your place.
- If you discontinue your studies within three weeks of the start of the course, it is considered an early discontinuation. In this case, you may apply for the course or programme again in the future.
- If you discontinue your studies more than three weeks after the start, it is considered a late discontinuation. In this case, you cannot apply for the course again. If you would like to retake it at a later date, you may be re-registered if a place is available.
Students taking a single-subject course can report their discontinuation directly in Ladok. If you are taking a course package or a programme, you need to report your discontinuation via a form.
