Regarding exams in January 2025
The demand for exam seats at the exams in January 2025 is very high. Don't forget to unregister from an exam in Ladok if you know you won't attend, as this reduces the number of unused exam seats and makes it easier to manage the exams!

Written examination
Registration
You must always register for the exam - regardless of whether it is a regular exam or a re-exam. Registration is made in Ladok no later than 12 days before the exam date and is a requirement for participation. Information about date, place and time is available in Ladok. In most cases, the exam registration opens a bit into the course and is thus not always visible at the start of the course.
NOTE! If you have registered but will not participate, it is important that you deregister. Deregistration is done in Ladok and helps us avoid unnecessary material and room costs.
Uppsala University's general exam information
Exam date
The regular course exams are generally given at the end of the period and re-exams are offered at specific re-exam periods.
Re-take exam
Most courses offer the possibility to retake exams during specific periods over the year. Courses that are given multiple times each academic year might have other dates.
If a course is given multiple times over the academic year it can be possible to retake the exam at a later regular exam date. If you chose to take a retake an exam at a later regular exam date it can't be guaranteed to not collide with other course sessions.
Accommodations at written examination
If you study at the Faculty of Science and Technology and have been granted exam accommodations, you need to submit a request for this before each exam.
Retrieving written exam
All written exams at a department by the Faculty of Science and Technology are scanned and can be retrieved digitally.
You can find your exams by logging into the storage service with your student account. The exam is saved on the server for two years, after which it will be deleted according to archiving regulations for exams.
Eight months after the exam has been written the physical copy will be shredded and will no longer be available.
Reconsideration of exam
Grades can not be appealed. However, the examiner can reassess the grade. Reassessment takes place due to new circumstances, or if the grade is clearly incorrect, and if the change can be made quickly and easily. It is thus not a question of "correcting" or "reconsidering" already assessed answers, but of obvious errors being corrected. A typical example is that the result has been added together incorrectly or a question has been forgotten.
If you feel that the examination or grading has not followed the current rules, you can turn to a grading ombudsman.
To have your grade reconsidered, fill in the form for reassessment (pdf) Pdf, 26 kB. and send it to the Student Office IT.
Transfer of credits
Courses taken at a foreign university normally qualify for credit towards a degree at Uppsala University. Students who have studied at another higher education institution in Sweden can generally count these studies towards a degree without any special transfer of credits.
General and specific information regarding credits.
Applying for transfer of credits at course levet at the IT-department:
The form (only in swedish) is to be filled out by the student and sent to it-kansli@it.uu.se
Academic leave of absence and discontinuation
If you need to take a break during your studies, you must apply for an academic leave of absence to have a guaranteed place on the programme after the break. If you make an unannounced interruption of studies, you have no guaranteed place to resume your studies.
Rules and regulations for academic leave of absence and discontinuation
To apply for an academic leave of studies from a program in the Department of Information Technology, you should fill in an application form for an academic leave of absence Pdf, 113 kB. and email it to the study counsellors.
Examination of a discontinued course
The Student Office IT informs all students on courses who are/were registered on a course that is being discontinued. The arrangements for how discontinued courses can be terminated vary but follow what is stipulated in the Students' working conditions at Uppsala University:
“6.15 For courses that have been discontinued or have undergone major changes, at least three opportunities must be given to take an examination during a time period that should extend over at least three semesters. Students are personally responsible for finding out about changes in the contents of the course. However, the department must assist students with such information.”
For students who have been registered on a discontinued course at the Department of Information Technology, the following applies:
Discontinued course - no completed modules
If you have been registered on a course that will be discontinued and you don’t have any part of it reported as completed in Ladok, you should first apply for a similar course with equivalent content. This means that you must apply for the new course via universityadmission.se, i.e. in the same way as you do for other courses to be admitted and registered.
Discontinued course - approved modules are reported in Ladok
If you have been registered on a course that is discontinued and have at least one part reported as passed (e.g. written exam or other compulsory assignment), the first option is that you do the remaining course module(s) that are missing (or equivalent). Course-specific information on completion of compulsory parts is sent out by the Student Office IT and is listed below.
Please note that it is not possible to be re-registered on a discontinued course.
