Credit transfer and approved leave from studies
Credit transfer.
If you have studied outside of The Department for social work (ISA) these credits may be included in your degree. In some cases, the credits must be transferred, and in other cases they can be immediately included in your exam without being transferred. Below you can read more about what applies in your particular case.
- All or part of courses that are to be included in the social work degree must be credited. You who are studying on the Social Work program must apply for credit via the form below. If you want to be credited for several courses, you must submit one application per course. Apply for credits within the sociology degree (digital form).
- Entire courses to be included in a general degree can usually be included directly in your degree without credit. You who are studying independent courses or on the master's programme in Social Sciences and Social Work must contact the Department for Study Administration to include these in your Degree of Master.
- Part of the courses that are to be included in a general degree from Uppsala University must first be credited. You who are studying independent courses or on the master's programme in social sciences and social work must apply via the form below. If you want to be credited for part of several courses, you must submit one application per course. Apply for credit for part of a course within a general degree (digital form).
- All courses from foreign institutions of higher education that are to be included in general or vocational degrees from Uppsala University must be credited. You who studied courses abroad contact the Department for Study Administration to include these in your degree.
What do you do if you want to credit transfer for courses that you have taken, for example, abroad?
If you are thinking of studying courses abroad and want to take credit for it as part of a course (or a whole course), you can contact the department and send in the syllabus and bibliography for the courses you want to study. We then make a preliminary assessment of whether the courses can correspond to what you would otherwise study if you did not go on an exchange. If you want to study completely different courses, you have more options. You will be more limited in your choice of places and courses if you have thought of credit transfer corresponding courses within a programme. On the degree page there is more information about credit transfer of foreign education. It can be an advantage to extend your education by one or two semesters and study something completely different. That is, courses that more complement the program or courses that reflect the country's culture (combine with fun courses in general). Programme students who go on an exchange apply for a study break from the programme during the same period, see information and form below.
approved leave from studies and non-completion
Approved leave from studies
Sometimes it is difficult to combine studies with the rest of life or it may be that the studies did not quite go as planned. Then approved leave from study may be necessary. If you apply for and are granted a study break, it is possible to resume your studies after the approved leave from study. Approved leave from study is usually granted for one semester or one year at a time. During the approved leave from study, you can make up any missing course credits. We are happy to help with planning if needed. Here is a link to the form that you fill in to apply for a approved leave from study:

Non-completion
If you do not want to resume your studies but want to end them completely, you must send an application for non-completion. This is important both for the study administration to know, but also beneficial for you as you avoid receiving reminders about your studies and other irrelevant information. You who are studying the sociology program or master's program with a specialization in social work must report non-completion via the digital form below.
Application for non-completion
for those who study independent courses with us and want to finish them, must on your own report non-completion in Ladok. Log in to Ladok, go to the current course and to the "Participation in the course" tab on the left, here you fill in the box "I no longer wish to attend" and complete the registration by clicking "Cancel".
