About the course

New advances in biology have been closely linked to technological breakthroughs in optics-from the first microscopes in the 17th century to the recent decades' revolution in super-resolution microscopy. In the course Biophotonics, you will receive a thorough overview of how different optical methods work and how they are used to provide us with information about the structure of biological entities -  from the atomic and molecular level to the cellular and tissue level. You will also learn how light can be used as a precision tool, for example, to move or manipulate cells and molecules (optical tweezers) or to perform distance measurements on the nanometer scale.

There are no scheduling conflicts between 1MB444 and 1MB449, and the courses are suitable to take at the same time.
