About the course
This course addresses the development of the English language from its roots in the Germanic language family up to c. 1500. The course focuses on the Old English and Middle English periods, and special attention is paid to the structure of Old English. Through studying the course literature, translating historical texts, and completing exercises and short assignments, you learn about the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical characteristics of Old and Middle English.
