Anna Maria, student.

Anna Maria, from Lebanon

I was looking for a Master’s degree that would not only add value to my skill set and accelerate my career growth, but also become a hub for my passion and motivation.

How did you choose your programme?
– I was looking to implement continuous improvement in life and never stop learning, so I began looking for a Master’s degree that would not only add value to my skill set and accelerate my career growth but also become a hub for my passion and motivation. This programme serves a variety of courses in different flavours that would complement everything I have previously learned.

What is your reason for studying, or your ultimate goal?
– This degree will help me gain valuable insight from professors who are active researchers in the field. I will expand my network through the diverse groups I will be working with and through the guest lecturers and industry experts I will meet during site visits. This would allow me to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a manager at a multinational firm.

What is it like to be an international student?
– Being an international student is very exciting. I get to learn about Swedish culture, as well as the different cultures of different people in my programme from all parts of the world. Also, I get to learn Swedish and enjoy fikas. Overall, I feel that being an international student brings about significant personal growth since you get to be independent and adapt to a new way of life.

What is the best thing about studying at Uppsala University?
– The best thing about studying at Uppsala University is that you get offered so many opportunities to get involved. For example, being a programme ambassador, student representative, a host at Utnarm (an annual career fair) – there is always something to do. Also, I love the teaching methods. There are many seminars where you get to discuss what you have read, and some courses even have music-based lectures that tap into the creativity of students.

Name three things you are doing this week!
– This week I am studying for my courses, preparing for Utnarm, and going to explore Stockholm.

Describe the student life
– Student life is a busy life. There is always something to participate in, something to study, some Swedish to learn, somewhere to explore. It is very interesting.

Three quick questions
What is your favourite place in Uppsala?
– My favourite place in Uppsala is the old part of town. It feels like you are escaping reality when you walk the streets.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
– In five years, I hope to be here in Sweden, working at one of the big management consulting firms. Hopefully, my Swedish will have improved by then.

Where is the best place to study?
– My favourite place to study is the library in House 10 (Campus Ångström). I love the rotating single couches, where you can sit and charge, and turn your chair towards the sun when it is sunny outside. It is also nice to nap in them when you are very tired.
