I started this programme with high expectations and indeed it met my expectations in many ways. The programme is well aligned with real-world projects.

Why did you choose this programme?
– I choose this programme because of my deep interest in working in renewable energy, particularly in wind energy. In addition, I have always been interested in the process of project management, especially in the aspect of coordinating the challenge of various technical, environmental and social aspects for successful projects.

Does the programme meet your expectations?
– I started this programme with high expectations and indeed it met my expectations in many ways. The programme is well aligned with real-world projects. The different seminars, workshops and industry guest lecturers gave me valuable insight about the industry. The project courses we take are also effective exercises on how to apply the skills gained in the real-world scenario in the industry.

Is there any area of the programme that particularly interests you?
– I am equally drawn to two distinct areas. The wind resource assessment and community engagement/social acceptance. Both are equally important in wind power development.

What has been the most interesting part so far?
– One of the most interesting parts of the programme is the group projects. We are from a diversified field of study and nationality so working in such groups makes you see things in different aspects or makes you see how people have different perspectives. And bringing this together to solve problems and find solutions makes it more interesting and enjoyable.

What do the international opportunities look like in your program?
– Our programme offers a wide range of international opportunities aimed at providing students with a global perspective and preparing us for successful careers in the renewable energy sector. The collaboration with international industries and universities gives insight into the global renewable energy market. The exchange and internship opportunities help students to understand the different aspects of the field of study. The field trips and site visits offered also help us to understand how the renewable energy projects look like in comparison with projects back home, or in different parts of the world and here in Europe.

Two quick questions
Favourite place in your student town
– The beach behind our campus is my favourite place in the city.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
– I see myself having successful stories of wind energy projects developments. I see my self sharing my knowledge and insights through conferences, publications, and industry events. I want to have tangible contributions to the industry.

Study years: 2021–2023

I decided to pursue my studies in Sweden due to the country's significant emphasis on renewable energy. I believed it would be an excellent starting point given Sweden's substantial commitment to sustainable practices.

What is your background?
– I'm from Chennai, India. Before joining Uppsala University, I studied my Bachelor's in engineering at BITS Pilani in India.

What was your reason for choosing Sweden and Uppsala University?
– Before choosing Uppsala University and Campus Gotland, I decided to pursue my studies in Sweden due to the country's significant emphasis on renewable energy. I believed it would be an excellent starting point given Sweden's substantial commitment to sustainable practices. I found that Uppsala University was offering Wind Power Project Management Program at Campus Gotland, so, it just fell perfectly in line with my plans.

What are your plans after graduation and how do you think Uppsala University can help you achieve your goals?
– My plan after university is to find a job in Sweden or in Europe and ideally I would like to work within offshore wind or within wind power project realisation.

What do you like most about the programme?
– The Wind Power Project Management Programme has allowed me to create a strong foundation within wind energy so that I can build on top of it at the workplace. What I like a lot about the programme is that it doesn't just lean into one specific aspect of wind power, but it talks about everything, for example social aspects technology, legal aspects, etc. So, it's really good to get a holistic picture of wind power and not just leaning on just one singular aspect of it.

What is it like to be an international student?
– I think being an international student at Campus Gotland has been an amazing experience so far. You get to meet other international students and Swedes. It's really good that we have a small community within the island, and you can create really strong social relationships with many people.
