Entry requirements

Passed all previous courses in the Master programme Medical Nuclide Techniques.

Learning outcomes

The project work applies knowledge from all previous courses within the program and can serve two purposes:

1. For students that fulfil the Master programme 120 ECTS credits (80 Swedish points), the project work will have a somewhat theoretical content to prepare for further studies within the program. The practical aspects of a project work will be given in the extensive project work (30 ECTS credits, 20 Swedish points) at the second part the second study year.

2. For students that leave the program with totally 60 ECTS credits (40 Swedish points) the project work will be essentially practical to give an interesting application example in depth.

The overall goal of the project work is to participate in medical nuclide technical work. The project work can be physical, chemical, biological, preclinical or clinical.

After passed project work with a somewhat theoretical approach it is expected that the student can:

-describe and explain, in depth, the results of radionuclide based pharmacokinetics, diagnostics/imaging or radionuclide therapy from experimental research or clinical analysis of disease

-plan procedures for radionuclide based pharmacokinetics, diagnostics/imaging and therapy

-analyse and interpret results from radionuclide-based investigations, at least in collaboration with the experimentalist or the clinical physician

-design radionuclide based diagnostics and imaging as support for surgery, immuno- or gene therapy

-design radionuclide based therapy of tumours

After passed project work with a mainly practical approach it is expected that the student can:

-carry out radionuclide based experiments within the framework of a research program

-understand, and be able to explain, in both general and specialised terms, the results and the importance of the results that were gained within the project work

-plan, and together with the experimentalist or the clinical physician, carry out further radionuclide based pharmacokinetics, diagnostics/imaging or therapy (in case of continued collaboration and even continuation with Ph.D. studies)

-give advices how to design radionuclide-based pharmacokinetics, diagnostics and imaging as support for surgery, immuno- and gene therapy

-describe and explain the principles of radionuclide-based therapy of tumours

Content

-The supervisor and co-supervisor give introductions to the project work.

-Introduction at the department: routines and information about ongoing developmental work and research. Writing of a report and presentation as a seminar.

Instruction

The supervisor and co-supervisor give the necessary teaching.

Assessment

Passed written report. Passed oral seminar presenting the project work. The grades "Pass" or "Fail" are given.
