Entry requirements

Knowledge of English; the course is not available for regular Swedish-speaking students. Prerequisite: Sweden's Economic and Social Development in the 19th and 20th Centuries, 7.5 credits.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student should

  • be able to individually formulate a well-defined scientific problem and to discuss this problem by writing an essay, equivalent to 10 weeks of work
  • be able to evaluate and use suitable research methods, sources and analytical frameworks and theories in relation to the chosen subject.

Content

The aim of the course is to train the student in basic research work, scientific writing, the application of suitable research methods, critical evaluation of sources and in a seminar to defend her/his study. This is a limited independent research task with a duration of approximately 8 to 10 weeks. This work ends up with a scientific report of 30 - 40 pages of typed text. Professional supervision is continuously given. The basic task is to solve a well defined delimited research problem within a wider economic historic context by applying well established scientific methods and, when applicable, to make use of theoretical frameworks.

Instruction

Professional guidance is continuously given and the work is closely followed by the supervisor.
