The course is an optional course and can be taken on undergraduate level.

Entry requirements

To be accepted to the course there is a requirement of at least one year of studies in Educational Sciences , 60 ECTS credits, or two years of studies in a Teacher Training Programme.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the student will have the knowledge to:

  • describe and explain the development of the field of comparative education
  • identify the field of comparative education and its areas for studies
  • understand different approaches within comparative education and to be able to use and valuate different methods in comparative studies
  • understand the principles behind analyses of educational systems in different countries
  • set up and valuate a research plan for a comparative study.

  • comparative education as an educational science
  • the history of comparative education
  • the methods of comparative education
  • the principles behind analyses of educational systems in different countries
  • Instruction

    The instruction consists of lectures, seminars, group exercises and tutoring.

    Assessment

    Written paper to be evaluated first regarding the thoroughness and carefulness of the description given and secondly regarding the amount of analysis made. Grades are awarded according the scale passed with distinction, passed or failed and according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
