Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should know and be able to use different theoretical models for electron structures, lattice vibrations and transport in solid materials and be able to evaluate the validity of the models, their applicabilities and limitations.
Content
Space group symmetry. Fermi surfaces. Electrons and phonons in crystals. Metal theory. Beyond the one-electron model. Harmonic and anharmonic effects in crystals. Electric and thermal transport in solid materials.
Instruction
Lectures and lesson exercises.
Assessment
In connection with the course, assignments with problems and computational problems are given. The course is completed with an oral examination which together with the assignments determines the grading.
