General provisions

The course is offered both within the framework of the Master's programme in social sciences and as D-course for students according to earlier study regulation.

Entry requirements

80 credit points/120 credits where 60 credit points/90 ECTS credits should be in media and communication, or comparable, and proficiency in English equivalent to English B in the Swedish secondary school i.e. a TOEFL test with a score of 213 in the computerised test or an IELTS test with no band lower than 6.

Learning outcomes

The ability to understand and be able to react to surrounding world changes becomes ever more important for organisations and companies within both private and public sector. The rate of change also increases, and the cultural, political, economical and technical forces that influence the organisations are subject to few limitations and operate at a global level. The over-all aim of the course is to give knowledge about the forces that influence the restructuring processes in society and organisations and about different methods to study the development in the world around us and future questions. On completion of the course, the student should be able to Knowledge and understanding - describe and explain cultural, political, economical and technical growth factors - understand and analyse important future questions on short, average and long view - analyse the consequences of current surrounding world changes regarding the structure and ability to solve its assignments of organisations - take part of and account for current research in the area of organisation other countries, future Skills and abilities - evaluate the relevance of different analytical methods - carry out basic other countries - and future analysis - describe current other countries - and future trends for non-specialists - use won knowledge of other countries and future for strategic purposes Assessment skill and attitudes - evaluate different risks that follow of the proceeding surrounding world development - balance different alternatives in aim to avert or decrease the damage effects of identified risks or threats - reflect on the ethical aspects of other countries - and futures studies

Content

The course comprises thematic studies of processes and mechanisms of change within the media sector, but changes within the cultural, social, economical and technical areas are also studied. The methodological issues are covered by the participants carrying out situation analyses and also critically reviewing different environmental and future studies.
