Entry requirements

* Passed results of Physiology, 9 credits (6 credit points) and Basic anatomy on the nervous system.

* 35 passed credit points (52.5 credits)

* All oral, written and practical examinations in physiotherapy from earlier semesters must be passed

* If the examination consists of a report, this should be submitted before end of the actual semester and must be approved at the latest the following semester

Learning outcomes

The course should give basic knowledge about neurological symptom theory, neurological diseases and injuries in adults and basic medical treatment of these conditions.

Knowledge and understanding

On completion of the course, the student should be able to account for:

* neurological symptom theory

* neurological examination methods

* the most common neurological diseases

* reasons for head-ache and dizziness

* neurological aspects on dementia, alcohol and pain

Content

Neurological symptom theory based on functional neuro-anatomy. Overview about laboratory studies within the neurology. The most important neurological diseases (ALS, spinal cord, MS, Polyneuropathy, peripheral pareses, muscle diseases, Parkinson disease and other movement disorders) occurrence, causes, neuro-anatomical background and treatment of these diseases. Head-ache, dizziness, epilepsy, tumours, infections, dementia, alcohol, neurological views on pain, care/treatment of patients.

Instruction

The teaching is given in the form of lectures.

Assessment

Passed written examination.

Students who have not passed the examination have a right to attend 4 additional examinations (i.e. 5 examinations in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts. Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination.
