Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is that the student shall assimilate the description of motion given by Newtonian mechanics and learn to apply it to situations appearing in engineering.
After the course the student shall be able to
- analyse situations occurring in mechanical engineering.
- perform calculations of quantities of importance in mechanical engineering.
Content
Dimensions and units in mechanics. The concepts of force, force moment, momentum and angular momentum and their application in the Newtonian description of translational and rotational motion. The concepts of work, power, kinetic and potential energy and their application in the description of motion using the law of energy. Special application: Vibrations.
Instruction
Lectures, lessons and laboratory work.
Assessment
Written examination at the end of the course. Passed laboratory work is required for passed course.
