Entry requirements

For admission to a new term, passed compulsory parts are required from previous terms and all examinations, except one from the nearest previous term, must be passed. After interruption of studies, it is required that all courses from the previous terms are passed. The education follows a course of studies, which implies that the courses should be read in an established order.

Learning outcomes

After the course, the student should:

  • Be able to anatomic terminology for musculoskeletal system, thorax, abdomen and pelvis.
  • Be able to account for topographic anatomy and important clinical applications for extremities head, throat, back, thorax, abdomen and pelvis.
  • Be able to account for anatomic normality and variation regarding topographic anatomy and be able to use this knowledge clinical.
  • Be able to account for principles of radiological reproduction technologies and their clinical usage.
  • Be able to identify anatomic structures within extremities trunk, thorax, abdomen and the stream in images compiled with radiological reproduction technologies.
  • Be able to describe the surface anatomy for organs and large blood vessels in thorax, abdomen and pelvis, and describe the surface anatomy of muscles, large blood vessels and nerves in the extremities.

Content

  • The musculoskeletal system terminology
  • Movement theory of upper and lower extremities and trunk.
  • The head, throat, arm, legs and back:
  • Legs, joints and muscles
  • Circulation, innervation and topography
  • Applied (clinical) anatomy
  • Diagnostic medical imaging methods: bases about methodology and interpretation
  • X-ray anatomy seminars the musculoskeletal system
  • Topographic anatomy concerning thorax, abdomen and the pelvis
  • X-ray anatomy lectures thorax, abdomen and pelvis
  • Surface anatomy, palpations concerning the extremities, thorax and abdomen and pelvis

Instruction

The course is given in the form of a case seminar, lectures, group work in descriptive anatomy and surface anatomy current musculoskeletal system, group work in surface anatomy current thorax, abdomen, dissections and group work in radiology current musculoskeletal system.

Assessment

For regulatory framework about absence from compulsory parts and rules for participation in examination, see programme curriculum in the students' guide.

For a Pass grade in the course, the case seminar, group work and dissections should have been carried out satisfactorily. Examination takes place in connection with oral test on the musculoskeletal system, oral practical examination in anatomy in connection with dissection, oral practical examination in radiological anatomy and a theoretical written final examination.

Students who have not passed the examination have the right to take the examination 4 additional times (= total 5 examinations). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts, i.e. also submission of a so called blank exam. Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination. The student has the right on request to change examiner after two failed examinations.
