Entry requirements

For admission to semester 2, 22.5 passed credits are required from programme courses from earlier semester. The planning of the programme is based on a clear progression, which is why the student should follow the courses in order.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to - define and describe the subject areas cognition - and learning psychology, - know current, central theoretical cognitive-psychological models and describe how these can explain different observed phenomena, and identify possible deficiencies of these models, and account, on a general level, for how learning psychological principles can be used to influence behaviours - from cognitive-psychological principles have ideas about applications on, for example, learning situations, - formulate a cognitive-scientific problem and identify methods to solve this problem - at the basic level plan and carry out a smaller study of a cognitive phenomenon with human participants - compile and describe data and draw basic conclusions from the results - in group cooperation produce a written report that follows established formal criteria broadly and follow basic requirements of science - Lead critical discussions of scientific method regarding another student's work and defend one's own work verbally.

Content

The course gives a general introduction to learning - and cognitive psychology. from cognitive-psychological principles have ideas about applications on, for example, learning situations, The emphasis of the course lies on cognitive psychology, 4.5 credits that treat thinking and knowledge processes as a central component. Other subject areas that are considered are neuropsychology, knowledge representation, decision making, visualisation, language and problem-solving. In a laboratory part, 1.5 credit points, an experimental study is conducted that illustrates cognitive-psychological phenomena and gives an applied introduction to scientific problem formulation, method and report writing.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of lectures for the theoretical part. The laboratory session takes place in groups with a presentation during a seminar. Supervision is provided in connection with laboratory sessions.

Assessment

Student's knowledge is assessed via a written examination. In addition, a passing grade on the laboratory report is required as is compulsory participation in seminar and laboratory sessions. For examination, the grades used are passed and failed. Passed course: To pass the course, passed results of all compulsory parts and approved examination are required. The student who has failed examination has a right to go through examination further 4 times (= total 5 examinations). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit additional examination. As examination, the times counted are when the student participated in examination. Submission of so-called blank exam is counted as examination.

other requirements, preconditions and conditions for participation in and fulfilment of the course e g compulsory attendance, design of own work etc., are stated at the start of the course. Student who does not satisfies mandatory requirements for the grade Pass is usually given occasion to redo remaining parts the following occasion the course is given and/or be provided with complementary assignments by the course director.
