Learning outcomes
After the course the student must be able to:
- discuss the possibilities and limitations of various synthesis methods
- argue for the choice of solution to a certain synthesis problem, taking limiting factors into consideration
- account for different furnace constructions and the accompanying temperature control
- critically read and analyse scientific articles in the field of materials chemistry
- do the planning of and execute a synthesis task in practice under limited supervision
- report, orally and in writing, the synthesis work including aspects of characterisation and analysis of hazards
- critically judge and discuss suggestions and work of others at seminars and reporting sessions.
Content
The course has a strong laborative character, the main part consisting of planning and execution of synthesis tasks in project form. Furnace techniques and temperature measurement. Rietveld analysis of powder diffractograms.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, self planned synthesis projects.
Assessment
Obligatory: Seminars (2 HE credits); Execution of the projects and the reporting thereof, orally and in writing, with internal opposition (3 HE credits).
