General provisions
The course is offered within the Master's program in languages and as a freestanding course.
Entry requirements
120 credits of which at least 90 credits in a main field of a language or general linguistics
Learning outcomes
For the grade Pass, after completing the course the student should be able to
- describe the main features of Balochi phonology and elementary morphosyntax using linguistic terminology and apply this knowledge in reading texts;
- be aware of the different orthographic systems used for Balochi;
- give an account of the dialects of Balochi and the distribution and position of the language within the Iranian languages;
- translate simple sentences from Swedish to Balochi and vice versa;
- write an elementary text in Balochi in Latin script;
- orally describe a person and an environment;
- actively master a basic vocabulary including greetings, family relations, means of transport, colors and shapes, animals, clothes, home furnishings, food and drink, human body and diseases, geography;
- initiate, conduct and conclude simple conversations on the above-mentioned topics with idiomatic accuracy;
- read elementary texts with understandable pronunciation
- translate simple Balochi literary texts into Swedish;
- explain the problems of multilingualism, language standardization and the issue of national languages.
Content
The course aims to provide basic skills in Balochi pronunciation, orthography, grammar and syntax. The course also includes the translation of simple texts.
Instruction
The teaching consists of lectures, exercises and examinations. The student's own learning activities are of crucial importance for the work on the course.
Assessment
Assessment takes place through two written examinations, one oral examination and one written assignment.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Other directives
The course may not be included in the degree as a freestanding course if the corresponding part has been studied in another course included in the degree.
