Learning outcomes

Give the basic knowledge about the building of the human body, development, results of - activity - inactivity that is required for continued studies in the subject physiotherapy and for work as physiotherapist.

After completed course, the student should be able to:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

1. describe the detailed structure of the human body at the microscopical level current connective tissue cartilage, bone, muscles and joints and describe at a general level for the microscopical changes that can been observed in those tissues and joints at inactivity respectively physical activity

2. account in detail for the descriptive and topographic building of the trunk and the extremities concerning skeleton, joints and muscles and the blood supply of the trunk and the extremities (only broadly) and motor innervation (in detail)

3. describe at a general level the skull macroscopic building concerning bones, temporomandibular joint with surrounding muscles, vision, hearing and balance organ, upper airways, throat and their blood supply - and innervation

4. account in detail for the macro and microscopical building of the central and peripheral nervous system - including cranial nerves and pathways and describe at a general level meninx, cerebrospinal fluid system and the blood supply of the brain

5. account in detail for the macroscopic building of circulation - and the respiratory organs including their blood supply and innervation. At a general level describe the abdomen and pelvic organs, the pelvic floor and blood supply- and innervation

SKILLS AND ABILITY

6. on living man identify and name palpable bone parts, joints, ligament and muscles on trunk and extremities

7. describe for patients relevant anatomic facts and communicate with colleagues by using correct facts and technical language and be able to take part of scientific work where knowledge in anatomy is necessary

Content

The course comprises 9 HR credits and consists of five parts: Cell and tissue organisation, the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, organ anatomy and palpation.

1. Cell and tissue organisation: cell biology and tissue theory with emphasis on the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. The fundamental building of muscles and joints and effects of activity and inactivity.

2. The anatomy of the musculoskeletal system: The skeleton parts of the extremities and the trunk, joints and muscles and vessel and nerves.

3. Neuroanatomy: Micro and macroscopic building of the central and peripheral nervous system. Motor and sensory pathway systems.

4. Organ anatomy: Building and innervation of blood vessel. Building, vascular supply, innervation and topography of heart and lungs. General building, vascular supply and innervation of digestive system, urinary organ and genital organ.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of lectures, group assignments, training examinations with oral overview, muscle and joint preparation demonstration. Palpation (compulsory).

Assessment

Passing the course requires:

Passed written examination that examines aims 1-7.

Attendance at all palpation occasions that examine aims 6-7. The written examination consists of two parts and each part will be corrected separately. If failing one part the student may resit for an examination of the failed part, so-called residual exam. The grades passed or failed are applied.

Students who have not passed the examination have a right to attend 4 additional examinations (i.e. 5 examinations in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts. Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination.
