Computational and Systems Biology I
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to generate knowledge for usage, development and analysis of quantitative models of biological systems at both a molecular and cellular level. After passing the course, the student should be able to
- Explain by quantitative measures the physical base for biomolecule structure
- Write computer programmes for simulation of intracellular chemical processes
- Determine the structure of a peptide from NMR experimental data
- Make computer simulations for small biomolecules such as RNA and peptides
- On an advanced level present the different factors that contribute to interactions between biomolecules
- On an advanced level describe the content of relevant scientific literature
Content
Computer exercises on peptide structure determination based on NMR data, folding of RNA using different time and length scales, binding and folding of ligands and simulation of peptide folding. . Literature project.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and computer exercises.
Assessment
Computer exercise 9 credits. Literature project 3 credits. Oral and written presentation (in English) of the literature project 3 credits Seminars 3 credits Participation in at least 80% of the seminars.
