Learning outcomes

A student who successfully completed the course will be able to:

- describe and analyse relevant parts of research on early modern Northern Europe,

- describe, evaluate and apply relevant theoretical and conceptual perspectives employed in studies of this period,

- define research topics suitable to contribute to historical knowledge on early modern northern Europe, and to analyse the topics and present the analysis in concise and comprehensible ways,

- identify and describe sources to early modern history.

Content

The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to early modern Northern Europe, give them insights into advanced thinking and argumentation within historical analyses as well as deeper knowledge of the practical work.

Instruction

The course will consist of a number of lectures, seminars and tutorials focusing on specific themes and questions. Seminar discussions and tutorials will be based partly on mandatory literature, partly on literature of the students' choice, and partly on primary sources.

Assessment

Assessment is based upon performing seminar assignments and writing and presenting a thesis proposal. Grades will be given in accordance with the Swedish grading system. The following grades will be used: Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) and Failed (U).
