General provisions
The content, length and level of the education are regulated by chapter 1, section 9 of the Higher Education Act 1 (1992:1434), by the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), and by the Ordinance on changes to the Higher Education Ordinance (2006:1053). The course is given in semester 6 in biomedical laboratory science programme and consists of theoretical in-depth study within biomedical laboratory science. The course intends to that the students deepen and broadens oneself in one of the student chosen subject from previously completed courses on 61-150 higher education credits level and to exercise practical skills in scholarly written and oral presentation. The students' exercises intend to show that they can absorb advanced theory within chosen field.
Entry requirements
For admission, passed courses equivalent school year 1 are required and 2 in the programme extensive 90 credits, passed practical tests and at most travelled on 2 examinations of which no more than 1 from school year 1.

Skills and abilities
On completion of the course should the student;
- be able to show ability to acquire and present facts from scholarly databases orally
- be able to show ability to plan in groups and distribute joint tasks
- be able to show ability to present in writing scholarly facts
- be able to show ability to give positive and constructive feedback on scientifically based text
- be able to design laboratory record from a scholarly article
- be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding in chosen subject area
- be able to lead and summarise a seminar
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to;
- account orally and answer questions about his advanced study in the main field in a way that shows advanced knowledge understanding
- orally and present his subject area in a way that shows in writing that the student has acquired facts from different scholarly texts and can draw independent conclusions based on acquired scholarly facts
- account for the design of a laboratory record and demonstrate an understanding of how standard opera thing procedures (SOP) function in laboratory environment.
EVALUATION ABILITY AND ATTITUDES
The student should be able to show an ethical diversity - and equal treatment of colleagues and show a mature handling of conflicts that arise in planning and carrying out group assignment.

Instruction
Group assignment, self-study, oral and written presentations and seminars.
Assessment
Examination takes place in seminars. Passed participation in seminars including the examination seminar, passed laboratory record and passed written and oral presentations are required for the grade passed.
Students who have not passed the examination have the right to take the examination 4 additional times (= total 5 examinations). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts. Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination.
