Alternatives a, the 15 HE credits of essay

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

• within given periods independently write an academic paper about 15 HE credits in accordance with the academic writing approach concerning choice of method structure, issue, problem-solving, support and formalities
• understand the difference between sources and literature and between primary and secondary material and display ability to assess the relevance of the information and necessary extent for the solution of the set problem
• analyse and practically apply scholarly information retrieval at libraries files and through the Internet and correct be able to set up the footnote system of the essay - and list of references
• in a relevant way apply scholarly interview technique and research ethics that can be current for the given topic
• in accordance with academic established principles defend respective publicly discuss an essay
• independently formulate an issue as a basis for an academic paper
• independently choose relevant literature for the work
• independently set up a realistic plan for the own work
• formulate in writing oneself in the essay through an own, processed analytical language
• summarise his work through an own constructive discussion of the results of the essay
• participate actively in mid-term seminars and essay seminars

Alternatives b, literature course 15 HE credits

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

• profit and actively relate to church historical, ecclesiastical or missionsvetenskapliga work, both survey literature and scholarly monographs
• independently discuss the literature with a focus on its perspective, contents and wider context and theory and method
• orally present and discuss scholarly arguments and conclusions critically

Content

Alternative a essay

The course consists both of a basic orientation in subject-specific theories and methods, and of writing a larger essay or field study report about 15 HE credits. The course starts with teaching in how one writes an academic paper. After that, the student writes an essay, where subject and literature are chosen independently. Under the essay writing, regular supervision is given. Under the writing, the student also participates in a mid-term presentation where a preliminary version or parts of a preliminary version of the essay are placed forward and are process. At the end of the term, the essays in an essay seminar the students may where train in the roles as seminar participants are treated author of the thesis and faculty examiner.

Alternatives b literature courses

For students who not write essay in one of the subjects within studies in church and mission at level C, there is it possibility to acquire deepening knowledge in the subjects by instead reading two literature courses about 7.5 HE credits each. This implies that the student alone read the literature that the courses include thereafter to take an examination the same. The courses that student can choose among are the following:

Church history

The course wants to give advanced knowledge of the church historical development in an or several of the student chosen regions (for example pins or landscapes). The aim is to learn know the region religious relations during the three latest centuries. Spiritual revivalist movements, theological transition periods and religious leading figures are put in their general contexts and the study contributes I see to explain and understand development and present-day relations.

Swedish religious revival and communion history 7.5 HE credits

The course wants to give advanced knowledge of the church historical development within one of the student chosen church, society or revivalist tradition. The aim is to in a historical perspective learn know church historical development and relations and put in this in relation to the other countries. Spiritual traditions, theological transition periods and religious leading figures are put in their church historical contexts. The study contributes to explain and understand development and present-day context.

Women in the church history 7.5 HE credits

The course wants to show, how women have been active actors in different periods of the history of the church. The literature highlighted, describing and explaining their actions. The literature can be chosen with international and/or Swedish perspective.

The divine service life history 7.5 HE credits

The course wants in an international perspective give an image of how Swedish divine service life turned out and been changed through different epochs of the church history. The fundamental features in the history of the sermon, the morning service and the hymn are clarified with special emphasis on the three latest centuries.

The church is no religion 7.5 HE credits

The basic placement in a Christian community is it divine service. In the course is studied, how different classical service forms look in different traditions for example the western fair and how new service orders, for example feministic liturgier, grown and create the Christian communities of new blows.

Church law and church organisation are in various ways seen, from as a consequence of the dogmatics to theological uninteresting. Today, for example modern communication theory gives perspectives how the organisations of the churches can be perceived. The course gives different historical and theoretical perspectives how the view on the church has been influenced and is influenced by different conceptions of law, organisation and administration.

An important entry to the understanding of Christian churches is their view on offices and employments. The course therefore gives an introduction to the different ways to think that lie behind different kyrko¬former, for example congregational or episcopal. In the course, examples how these have been developed in different historical situations are given today against a larger mutual understanding between the churches that have implied a change of the självförståelser of the churches.

The church as diaconal community 7.5 HE credits

All larger requirement is set on the churches that they internationally and in the independent countries should take a larger care responsibility. In the early church, the deacons had the administrative responsibility for strangers, ill and old persons. Inter-cultural theology 7.5 HE credits

Theology is created in different cultural, political and social contexts. In the course, present-day theological texts from different cultures are studied. Important issues are which importance the texts can have outside his original gestation situation and how theological reflection from different cultures can challenge churches and Christian movements.

Religious theology and religious dialogue 7.5 HE credits

How do Christian theologians over the fact reflect that there are other religions than the own and that most people are in the world not Christian? Which conclusions draw man when it will cooperation over the religious borders and in the view on the salvation? How does religious dialogue out in different environments see and how make man if man alone want to practise religious dialogue? This is examples of issues that are treated during the course.

Mission as commitments for peace, justice, health and environment 7.5 HE credits

Christian mission can not be limited to conversion preaching. In the course, we found knowledge with Christian initiatives for peace, justice, health and environment in different times, but with a focus on the present, and in a global perspective. Examples of questions that are treated during the course are the church and the slavery, Christian fight against racism and caste discrimination, Christian peace work, church and HIV/AIDS, the churches and the globalisation, church and human rights and church and the queue.

Mission theology and missionary history from post-colonial perspective 7.5 HE credits

In the course is studied both some basic work about post-colonial theory, and a number of texts about missionaries, missionary history and mission theology from the post-colonial teoribild¬ningen.

Regional study: Church in Africa/Asia/Latin America 7.5 HE credits

In the course, possibility to specialise in church life is given theology and history in a certain region after the student's own wish.

Instruction

Seminars.

Under the essay writing, regular supervision is given. The student has the right to a certain number hours for supervision and the h number is related to the extent of the essay. Supervision is given only under the time of the thesis course. If the student has omregistrerar oneself on thesis course and the earlier hours for supervision are consumed be given not new hours for supervision.

Other regulations

For a course to be completed a minimum level of 75% attendance is required in all of the elements of the course described in the syllabus. Absence over and above this is to be compensated by compensatory task(s) as decided upon by the teacher responsible for the course.

Transitional provisions

Individuals that reading this course according to older course syllabus has possibility to examine course according to the course syllabus within two years after course date. If there are special reasons, such retake can take place also later. Normally, teaching according to older course syllabus is not given.
