Entry requirements

The planning of the programme is based on clear progression, which is why the student should follow the courses in order. Admitted to semester 1 of the Speech therapist programme.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should

- have acquired awareness about and an understanding of central developmental theories, and be able to account for and compare these

- have acquired knowledge of human development and be able to account for the fundamental features of sensorimotor, cognitive, linguistic, personality-related and socio-emotional development

- have acquired awareness of how individual development is dependent on cultural and social relations and be able to account for the importance of cultural and social factors for individual development

- be able to account for research within developmental problem areas.

Content

The course gives a general introduction to the field developmental psychology and contains:

- Central developmental theories: The teaching highlights theories of human development from a maturity- and learning theory, cognitive, evolutionary psychological and psychodynamic perspective.

- Functional development: The teaching reflects aspects of human development and gives basic knowledge about individual predispositions, about the interplay between heredity and environment, and about sensorimotor, cognitive, language, personality-related and socio-emotional development. - Observation technique: Here, an introduction in observation technique with a basic exercise to observe and document small children's development is given. the exercise then is followed up in coming courses within the education to follow children's development over time (0 credits).

Instruction

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars. During the course, the students carry out an observation at the home of a child about 6 months old.

Assessment

The assessment of the student's knowledge takes place verbally and in writing. For examination, the grades used are passed and failed.

Other regulations

other requirements, preconditions and conditions for participation in and the fulfilment of the course, for example compulsory attendance, design of own work and so on, are stated at the start of the course. Student who does not satisfies mandatory requirements for the grade Pass is usually given occasion to redo remaining parts the following occasion the course is given and/or be provided with complementary assignments by the course director.
