Entry requirements

Introduction to Wind Power, 5 credits and a bachelor’s degree of 180 Swedish credits points in engineering, natural or social science.

Learning outcomes

After approved course the student should be able to:

  • describe the physics behind winds and the parameters that set local wind conditions
  • describe the function of a wind turbine from an aerodynamic standpoint
  • account for wind measurement methods and their applications
  • describe and apply energy estimation tools for energy production estimations
  • analyse wind resource assessment for planning

Content

The course provides an overview of different ways wind resources at a site can be estimated. Meteorology, aerodynamics and energy estimation methods and tools are key illustrative components of the course material, utilised in demonstrating how electrical energy can be achieved only where significant wind resources exist.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, group and field work.

Assessment

Written hand-in assignments and oral presentations with compulsory attendance 1 credit.

Written exam 4 credits.
