Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree of 180 Swedish credits in either engineering, natural or social science.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

  • be familiar with the basic structure of a scientific document and with the contents of a postgraduate thesis
  • write a consistent thesis proposal including all different steps of academic reasoning
  • build an energy and environmental research protocol as a part of a research proposal

Content

  • Quantitative and Qualitative research methods, statistical analysis, data collection and experimental design
  • Steps of academic reasoning and structure of a scientific document and postgraduate thesis (Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Literature review, Methodology, Case-Study, Results presentation, Sensitivity analysis, Discussion, Conclusions, References, Appendices)
  • Contemporary applied research: how it is performed, what is a research proposal and project, proposal evaluation and criteria, project execution and management.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, and group work.

Assessment

The course examination includes individual and group reports and assignments.
