Learning outcomes
Regarding knowledge and understanding the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course:
• Account for different principles, methods, models and technologies for development of information systems and its included parts
Regarding competence and skills the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course:
• Use modelling language in the development work
• Together with other apply an iterative development model from specification to test
• Use tools for modelling, revision control and test in the development process
• Produce projects artefacts that shows the development of software
Regarding judgement and approach the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course:
• Reflect critically on the development process and its components to evaluate the results
Content
The course covers the importance of developing software in an iterative process by means of established methods. The life cycle for software and different process models that can be used at developing of software are highlighted. The advantages and disadvantages of the different process models are discussed. In the course, the students work practically with the basic activities to develop central project artefacts at development of software through a project work. Focus is on analysis and design and the different diagrams that are used for these parts. The modeling language UML (Unified Modeling Language) is used in the course. In the development process is included to use tools as support for production and handling of project artefacts as well as quality evaluations where the project group presents their work.
Component 1: System Development Methods 1.5 credits
The component deals with different process models and their pros and cons. Further, notation for the modelling language UML is also included. The component also deals with teamwork and group dynamics.
Component 2: Project Administration 3.0 credits
The component deals with project planning in system development projects, quality assurance and handling of tools as support for production and handling of project artefacts.
Component 3: Iterative Development 3.0 credits
The component deals with the basic activities to develop project artefacts. Focus is on analysis and design even if implementation and testing are mentioned.
Instruction
Teaching is given as lectures, exercises and project work in groups.
Assessment
The course is examined through written exam, written assignments and oral presentations.
• For the grade Pass in the whole course, it is required that all components are passed.
• To pass with distinction is required furthermore passed with distinction on at least two components.
