Learning outcomes

AIMS

The course gives skills in compiling biomedical data and interpretation of statistical analyses.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

The student should on completion of the course:

- be able to account for theoretical and practical basic concepts within descriptive statistics, probability theory and statistical inference.

SKILLS AND ABILITY

On completion of the course the student should be able to:

- apply basic methods for descriptive statistics

- apply randomisation based methods for inference

- critically discuss statistical analyses.

JUDGEMENT AND APPROACH

On completion of the course the student should be able to:

- identify possible error sources in the design of statistical studies.

Content

Descriptive statistics: diagrams and measures. Planning and design of statistical studies.Randomisation-based inference: interval and hypothesis test

Instruction

Teaching includes lectures, computer and calculation exercises, problem-oriented group assignments and seminars. Attendance is compulsory at computer and calculation exercises and group assignments and seminars. The course is given in Swedish. Beside the teaching methods specified in the syllabus other ways of teaching may be used during the course.

Assessment

To pass the course, passed results of all compulsory parts and written assignments and active participation in seminars are required.
