Learning outcomes

After a successfully completed course the student should be able to:

  • describe some common tasks for a medical engineer,
  • account for some common medical devices used in healthcare for diagnostics and treatment,
  • give examples of some of the challenges facing healthcare,
  • plan and implement a project in a group,
  • write a simple technical report,
  • plan and conduct an oral presentation,
  • use the computer systems required for the initial courses in the programme and apply the rules for using the university's IT system,
  • account for equal terms/equal treatment for different grounds of discrimination.

Content

Overview of the program's goals and content. The future occupational role of medical technician. Brief description

of commonly used medical devices and how these are used for diagnosis and treatment of different illnesses. Examples of how the labor market looks like for medical technicians, different career paths and opportunities for further education. Report writing and oral presentation. Ethical issues concerning the professional role. University computer systems and networks and ethical rules for their use. Equal terms/equal treatment for all grounds of discrimination.

Instruction

Lectures, project work in group and study visits.

Assessment

Oral and written reports of project work (5 credits). Written exam (5 credits).
