Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree of at least three full time years duration comprising the equivalent of 180 credits with technology, mathematics, computer science or equivalent as the main field of study, including 30 credits in mathematics and 30 credits in computer science including courses in programming, computer architecture and operating systems.
Learning outcomes
After passing the course students will be able to:
- Explain the meaning of the term embedded system, the main concerns in design, construction, and analysis of embedded systems, and the main areas of the field.
- Explain basic concepts in computer architecture and operating systems. .
- Work effectively in a group.
- Write well structured reports.
- Write basic low-level software programs in C.
- Explain the basics of engineering and research ethics.
- Make effective verbal presentations.
Content
The course includes discussions of different types of embedded systems, and their properties and relationship to the courses included in the programme.
In addition the course covers ethics, cheating, independent work and project work in Swedish education, report writing skills (including how to reference source material correctly), collaboration, and collaborative learning,.
Skills relevant for later courses in the programme, in particular programming in C, Computer Architecture, and Operating Systems are refreshed.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, reports, laboratory exercises and project work.
Assessment
The assessment includes projects, discussions, presentations and assignments/reports.
