General provisions
The course is elective and common to all specialisations in the specialist nursing programme. The contents of the course build further on the contents of previous courses and joint contents of scientific methods. The course can be carried out within the framework of international exchange programme
Entry requirements
Passed courses including 15 credits in the chosen specialisation.
Learning outcomes
During the course, the student will be able to provide advanced knowledge in general and specific nursing on basis of scientific knowledge and carry out a degree project independently.
On completion of the course, the student will be able to Knowledge and understanding
- demonstrate advanced knowledge in the field of the specialisation
- demonstrate advanced knowledge about the application of scientific working methods
- demonstrate advanced knowledge about nursing theories and concepts that constitute a scientific basis for the field of knowledge of the specialisation
Skills and ability
- plan, formulate queries and carry out search strategies based on sound conceptual analysis in the field and thereafter select appropriate information resources
- critically review, analyse and evaluate national and international research results and present and discuss scientific studies in the field
- plan and carry out an independent scientific work in the knowledge field of the specialisation and describe the relevance in relation to nursing theories and concepts
- report the independent work in a scientific manner orally and in writing
- reflect on legal and ethical limitations of using different types of research data
- review critically the own and others' independent works
Judgement and approach
- reflect on and evaluate the importance of scientific works in nursing within the specialisation
- evaluate and discuss own research results in relation to other relevant nursing research in the field including theories and concepts
Content
Preparation of a project plan. Implementation and writing an individual degree project
Presentation and argumentation of the written degree project and reviewing another student's degree project
Instruction
Degree project supported by web-based teaching, supervision individually and in seminars and literature studies. The degree project is discussed at a specific seminar with student reviewers and in the presence of an examiner.
COMPULSORY PARTS
Introduction to the course, participation in the seminars, study assignments with written and oral presentation.
Assessment
Examination takes place in the form of oral and written presentations of project plan and degree project and participation in seminars.
The student shall with approved result:
- prepare a project plan for a degree project
- carry out an independent degree project
- as author of the written scientific work defend his/her degree project and present it as a poster or oral presentation
- as opponent review other student's degree project critically
Other directives
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University´s disability coordinator.
