Entry requirements
60 credits with 40 credits in chemistry including a basic course in analytical chemistry of at least 10 credits. In addition, participation in courses in chemistry of 20 credits.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for relevant scientific literature within analytical chemistry
- discuss and practically apply analytical methods based on electrochemistry, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, chromatographic methods and electroseparation
- plan and perform o complete analytical procedure with proper choice of method to solve analytical problems.
- present received results orally and written in Swedish and/or English
- use methods and means for control of the quality of chemical analyses
- carry out laboratory work with relevant documentation and risk and security assessment
Content
Overview of the scientific literature in analytical chemistry. Methodology and practical application of complete analytical procedures including: sampling, dissolution method, extraction, separation methods, final determination and evaluation of results.
Instruction
The teaching be announced in the form of lectures, demonstrations, project-oriented laboratory work, seminars and possible study visit. Course introduction, laboratory work, projects, seminars and study visits are compulsory.
Assessment
Written examination is organised at the end of the course. Examination correspond 6 credits and laboratory sessions that are part of the course and projects are marked to 9 credits. The final grade is received as weighing of the results of the written examination, laboratory work and project.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
