Entry requirements
120 credits with 60 credits in chemistry including Analytical chemistry 10 cr. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the construction and function of the instrumental components for different spectroscopic techniques
- utilize flow systems for sample introduction and sample preparation
- predict how changes in instrumental parameters will influence the measurements with the different techniques
- perform theoretical calculations related to the techniques discussed
- evaluate the applicability of the different techniques to solve analytical problems
Content
Analytical aspects of common spectroscopic techniques used in analytical chemistry. Instrumentation and practical aspects of atomic and molecular absorption and emission spectroscopy. Use of flow systems within analytical chemistry.
Instruction
Lectures and/or seminars. Laboratory work.
Assessment
A written exam is given at the end of the course and represents 2.5 credits. The laboratory work represents 2.5 credits. The final grade corresponds to a weighted average of the written examination and the laboratory results.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
