Entry requirements

Admission to semester 4 requires

* a pass in all compulsory components/examinations/assessments from semester 1, 2.

* a pass in all compulsory components in the courses Physiotherapy III, (3PT031), and Psychology II (2PS609).

* one compulsory component/examination/assessment in the courses Physiotherapy III (3PT031), or Psychology II (2PS609) may be registered as not acceptable achievement.

* passed clinical placement from semester 3.

* At least 76.5 credits

* That the course Neuroanatomy and Physiology related to Pain and Stress, (3PT032) is completed, but need not be approved.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

1. plan, carry out and evaluate physiotherapeutic measures from a biopsychosocial perspective in preventive, rehabilitating and habilitating interventions in pediatrics, neurology and geriatrics.
2. apply laws, statutes and guidelines governing health care, rehabilitation, housing and service as well as document and communicate physiotherapy measures.
3. interact with families and representatives from other professional groups in health care/school/welfare.
4. identify and respond to patients and families in crisis.
5. apply a risk preventive, patient safe and ergonomic working method.
6. analyse own attitudes and values regarding view of human life and ethical questions in health care.
7. analyse physiotherapeutic measures from a biopsychosocial perspective through clinical reflection as well as demonstrate the ability to identify and justify the need for additional knowledge.
8. reflect on how attitudes to gender affect girls and boys, as well as on how attitudes to aging and gender affect the professional role and the elderly themselves.
9. discuss human rights with other professions.
10. reflect on attitude and treatment from a human rights perspective.

Content

• Methods for examination of disabilities and activity limitations in pediatrics, neurology and geriatrics.
• Methods for treatment of disabilities and activity limitations in pediatrics, neurology, geriatrics.
• Teamwork.
• Crisis reactions and crisis management.
• Risk preventive measures including fall prevention.
• Gender knowledge.
• Interprofessional learning - human rights.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures, practical exercises, seminars, group assignments and clinical placement.

The contents of lectures may constitute a basis for examination also in those cases when attendance is not compulsory.

Assessment

Passing the course requires:

• Active participation in seminars (assess 4, 6, 7, 9, 10).
• Passed written examination (assesses aims 1, 2).
• Passed oral, practical examination (assesses 1, 5).
• Passed written reports (assess aims 3, 4, 6, 7).
• Clinical placement (assesses aims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7).

Students who have not passed the examination have a right to make 4 additional examination attempts (i.e. 5 examination attempts in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit additional examination. Every time the student participates in an examination is counted. Submission of a so-called blank examination counts as an examination attempt. The student has the right to request a change of examiner after two failed examinations.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
